Skiing.

Nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Gstaad offers a ski experience that's as rich in charm as it is in adrenaline-pumping slopes. One standout feature of Gstaad's ski options is its diverse range of runs catering to all skill levels. Whether you're a novice seeking gentle slopes to master your technique or an expert craving the challenge of black diamond trails, Gstaad has it all.

At an altitude conducive to excellent snow conditions throughout the season, Gstaad ensures consistent skiing enjoyment. As you carve through the powdery snow, take a moment to immerse yourself in the breathtaking landscape, perhaps even pausing for a warm cup of cocoa or delicious Comte prepared with locally-sourced cheese at one of the charming mountain restaurants.

For those seeking the ultimate convenience, ski butler services are available to handle all equipment needs, from fittings to maintenance, ensuring a hassle-free experience on the slopes. Additionally, guests of Le Grand Bellevue Hotel can take advantage of in-house ski hire services, allowing for seamless access to top-quality gear right from the comfort of their accommodation.

With its picture-perfect scenery of snow-capped peaks and cozy Alpine chalets, Gstaad beckons both seasoned skiers and leisurely enthusiasts alike.

Stay. Le Grand Bellevue.

Access able by train (Gstaad station is just down the road), transfers can be easily arranged, or by car (valet and self-parking are available) Le Grand Belle is enough majestic and quaint for the ultimate Alpine escape.

Why Le Grand Bellevue?

  • Location is excellent - easy access to the village.

  • While tradiotnal in design, the hotel still feels contemporary. The Swiss style of interior can feel daggy (opposite of cool), old and tired, this hotel maintain a tradiotanl approach, but feels fresh, rich and luxurious. It feels like home.

  • Service is amazing.

  • A shuttle service is available for drop off to all teh ski lifts or the town - if you are having a lazy day, or the weather isn’t suitable to walk.

  • Well priced considering. There are no bargains in Gstaad and you pay for what you get, but compared to other options I think it is priced well.

  • The spa is insane - I will elaborate on this further down.

  • The hotel caters for kids - there are plenty of food options suitable for kids, a gorgeous kids cub for little tots, and a private cinema (with fresh popcorn) available to book a movie for the older kids.

  • Your booking includes a full breakfast, and dinner. While the options to dine for dinner can be limited for those with dietary restrictions, after a bit of frustration we did manage to alter things so could enjoy it. The food was faultless - they use the highest quality produce that is prepared lightly so the ingredients are the hero. Its a stark difference from the traditional Swiss food which can be extremely heavy and stodgy.

The spa.

A trip to Gstaad, or any Swiss town woudn’t be complete without access to an incredible spa.

With 3,000 m2 of wellness facilities inspired by the fresh alpine air the spa is phenomenal . With access to a Turkish steam room, a hay sauna, a herbal sauna, a Finnish Sauna, a salt grotto, an infrared sauna, a bio sauna a laconium (I didn’t even know this existed), an ice shower, a spa and an indoor pool - you can spend hours detoxing and relaxing… it is the perfect way to recover from hours on the slopes or escape the hustle and bustle of life.

In addition to the saunas and wet areas the treatments on offer range from preventative to cosmetic so what ever your beauty fix there is something on offer to leave feeling like your best possible self.

Pointers

Travel to Switzerland was surprisingly different to what we expected - here are a few things we discovered us.

  • Switzerland is expensive, but we under estimated just how expensive. We are at a disadvantage somewhat with our currency - but expect to pay a lot for food - and then double it.

  • Staying at a good hotel which is inclusive removes the shock of paying of all your meals.

  • Cash is still very much needed ! Some places only accept cash which really shocked us.

  • The Swiss are very conservative - in every way.

  • Dress up for meals or you will be shamed in public.

  • Switzerland is small - day trips are very easy.

  • Although a very wealthy country, Swiss don’t invest in interior design. Many places are tired.

  • It is tricky to eat healthy or access dairy/gluten free food.
